THE TYPECRAFT FIELD NOTES
Seven days. One small habit.
A flexible practice plan for your first week.
This plan gives you a different focus each day without turning typing into a long assignment. Spend five to ten minutes per session. Repeat a day if it still feels difficult; there is no promise of a particular speed increase and no need to rush ahead.
Day 1 · Take a baseline
Complete three 60-second tests with everyday words. Record your speed and accuracy. Ignore the fastest outlier and notice the result you can repeat comfortably.
Day 2 · Find your home row
Work through the first lesson. Keep your eyes on the screen and use the raised marks on F and J to find your position. Prioritize correct key presses.
Day 3 · Explore your reaches
Try the upper-row and lower-row lessons. Notice which movements feel uncertain. Slow those down, then return to a familiar word test.
Day 4 · Practice your actual mistakes
Take a short test and select “Practice missed words” in your results. Repeat the difficult patterns without watching your speed. If there were no mistakes, try advanced words.
Day 5 · Type real sentences
Choose Passage mode. Pay attention to capitals, commas, and full stops. Your speed may be lower than on common words; the task is different.
Day 6 · Build endurance
Try a 120-second test. Keep the same comfortable pace from start to finish. Take a break if your hands become tired or your attention fades.
Day 7 · Compare fairly
Repeat the exact settings from Day 1 on the same keyboard. Look at accuracy and consistency, not only the highest WPM. Export your history if you want to keep a separate record.
For the next week, repeat the exercises that were most useful. Let your own results guide the plan.
